Discussion on the Engineers’ Syndicate Highlights Challenges, Rights, and Responsibilities

The Global Organization for Civil Society Advancement (GLOCA) held a focused discussion session on the current state of the Engineers' Syndicate in Syria, under the title: "Engineers' Syndicate: Aspirations, Challenges, and Its Role in Society." The session was part of a series of activities aimed at fostering dialogue on the role of professional unions in national development.
Balanced Discussion on Roles and Responsibilities
Participants discussed the key challenges facing the syndicate, including legal and administrative constraints, as well as the growing demands from its members. They also addressed the rights sought by engineers, such as improving working conditions, providing legal support and professional consultations, and offering skills development programs.
Conversely, contributions emphasized the importance of members fulfilling their responsibilities toward the syndicate, including adherence to laws and regulations, active participation in its activities, and maintaining professional standards in the practice of their profession.
The Syndicate’s Role in Development
The session highlighted the potential role of the syndicate in enhancing engineering specializations and contributing to community development efforts through engineering projects with local impact, as well as improving the quality of engineering services in the country.
Proposals for Improving Institutional Performance
The session put forward several recommendations for improving the syndicate's performance, including strengthening internal work mechanisms, expanding interaction between the syndicate and its members, and activating communication and coordination tools among its various branches.
Part of a Broader Initiative
This session is part of GLOCA’s efforts to engage in public discussions about professional structures, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities they face, with the aim of enhancing their role in achieving social cohesion and advancing civil society.
