Overview
On 31 May 2025, Advancing Civil Society - GLOCA held a physical discussion session in Aleppo titled “Transitional Justice in Syria: Multiple Perspectives and Victims’ Participation in Building the Future.” The session was delivered and facilitated by Hussam Al-Shahna, with the participation of 25 participants.
Session Focus
The session addressed transitional justice in the Syrian context from social, political, and legal perspectives, with a particular focus on the role of victims as central actors in any future justice process. It opened space for discussing concerns related to fairness, recognition, participation, and guarantees of non-discrimination.

The session contributed to promoting a victim-centered approach to transitional justice and strengthened dialogue among civil society actors, legal experts, and affected communities on justice, accountability, and Syria’s future recovery.
