Overview
On 24 January 2026, Advancing Civil Society - GLOCA held a physical dialogue workshop in Aleppo titled “Community Safety Dialogue Workshop,” in partnership with DCAF. The workshop was delivered by Youssef Kardosh and facilitated by Ranim Alloulo, with the participation of 25 local actors and community members.
Workshop Focus
The workshop opened a community dialogue space around peacebuilding, peaceful coexistence, and social cohesion in Aleppo. It aimed to capture local perspectives, analyze current social dynamics, and identify opportunities to strengthen civil peace and community safety in the city.

Key Outputs
Participants highlighted the importance of security, rule of law, basic services, justice, and livelihood opportunities as foundations for peace. They also identified hate speech, misinformation, unresolved grievances, poverty, and weak service coordination as key threats to coexistence. The discussion produced practical ideas for local dialogue, community mediation, youth engagement, and small initiatives that strengthen trust between neighborhoods and social groups.
Impact
The workshop created an active and safe space for dialogue and showed strong interest from participants in continuing similar sessions. It contributed to identifying local priorities for community safety and reinforced the need to connect civil society efforts with local institutions, women, youth, and community-based actors.
