Activity Summary

Overview
On 10 June 2025, Advancing Civil Society - GLOCA held a physical workshop in Aleppo titled “Ammar Ya Aleppo: Engineering Cooperation to Restore Hope and Rebuild.” The workshop was conducted by a team of volunteer engineers in coordination with GLOCA, with the participation of 10 engineers and community actors.

Workshop Focus
The workshop discussed the post-war infrastructure reality in Aleppo and explored engineering priorities for rehabilitation and reconstruction in affected neighborhoods. It also focused on strengthening coordination between volunteer engineers, civil society, relevant institutions, and local communities.

Key Themes

  • The condition of infrastructure in Aleppo after the war.

  • Engineering priorities for rehabilitating affected neighborhoods.

  • Local models of successful rehabilitation initiatives.

  • Coordination mechanisms between engineers, civil society, and institutions.

  • Planning the implementation phases of the #Ammar_Ya_Aleppo campaign.

  • Practical engineering and economic solutions based on available resources.

  • Community participation in restoration and reconstruction efforts.

Key Outputs
The workshop contributed to forming a specialized volunteer engineering team to coordinate the campaign, developing an initial map of priority affected areas, and preparing preliminary proposals for infrastructure rehabilitation projects. Participants also discussed a phased timeline for field activities and technical recommendations to guide civil society engagement in reconstruction efforts.

Impact
The activity strengthened the community role of engineers in Aleppo’s recovery and laid the groundwork for a coordinated volunteer campaign that connects technical expertise with local needs and community-based reconstruction.
