On April 2, 2023, the Shabab PRO Platform, one of the projects of Advancing Civil Society - GLOCA, organized a political seminar titled “National Identity.”

The seminar was presented by Dr. Tawfik Chamaa, a physician based abroad, an activist in medical relief, and one of the founders of the Reviving a Homeland Initiative. It was moderated by journalist Aisha Sabri, Content Manager at Advancing Civil Society - GLOCA and supervisor of the Shabab PRO team.

The session explored the meaning of national belonging at both individual and societal levels and discussed how national identity is formed and reshaped by political and economic transformations, wars, and natural disasters.

The seminar also examined demographic change in Syria and its impact on national identity and social cohesion. Participants contributed to an interactive discussion around the question, “What does being Syrian mean to you?”, alongside opinion polls conducted during the session.

The seminar sought to promote a renewed sense of national identity grounded in Syria’s civilizational and human heritage.
