By registering for membership or participating in the Salon’s activities, participants agree to respect the principles and rules set out in this Code of Conduct.
Safe Space
The Salon protects respectful, inclusive, and responsible participation.
Civic Dialogue
The Salon encourages public discussion without partisan promotion or propaganda.
Shared Responsibility
Every participant helps preserve the quality and integrity of the dialogue.
1.Respect for Diversity and Difference
Participants must respect different opinions, political views, social backgrounds, cultural identities, religious affiliations, regional experiences, and personal identities.
No participant may use language that includes accusation, humiliation, exclusion, stereotyping, or insults against any individual or group.
Participants are expected to distinguish clearly between criticizing ideas, policies, and public positions, and attacking people, communities, identities, or backgrounds.
2.Responsible Dialogue
The Salon encourages serious and direct discussion, but always within a framework of mutual respect. Participants must express their views clearly and responsibly, without interruption, personal attacks, intimidation, or aggressive language.
Disagreement is expected and welcomed, but it must be managed in a civic manner that allows listening, understanding, and meaningful exchange.
3.Dialogue Culture and Responsible Political Language
Talaqi Political Salon is based on a culture of dialogue, active listening, respect for speaking turns, and careful use of political language.
Participants are expected to use responsible, accurate, and non-inflammatory language. They must avoid expressions that provoke hatred, stigmatize others, generalize unfairly, or insult people with different views.
The purpose of dialogue is not to erase disagreement, but to manage it in a way that supports understanding, civic learning, and the possibility of finding common ground.
4.Civic and Non-Partisan Character
Talaqi Political Salon is a civic dialogue space. It is not a partisan, electoral, or propaganda platform.
The Salon may not be used for direct promotion of a political party, electoral campaign, armed group, mobilization effort, or any partisan agenda.
Participants may discuss public issues and political questions, but they may not use the space for recruitment, campaigning, or organized political promotion.
5.No Hate Speech or Incitement
Hate speech, incitement to violence, discrimination, or hostility is strictly prohibited.
This includes language or behavior targeting people based on religion, sect, ethnicity, nationality, region, gender, political opinion, social background, disability, or any other identity or status.
6.Confidentiality and Privacy
Talaqi Political Salon may apply the Chatham House Rule in sessions where this is announced by the organizers.
Under this rule, participants may use the ideas and general information shared during the session, but they may not reveal the identity or affiliation of the speaker, nor attribute any specific opinion or statement to a particular person or organization without explicit permission.
This rule aims to create a safe environment for open and responsible discussion, protect participants’ privacy and safety, and strengthen trust within the Salon.
Participants may not record, share, publish, or circulate individual contributions in a way that identifies the speaker or misrepresents the discussion.
7.Photography, Recording, and Publication
Photography, audio recording, video recording, or publication from Salon sessions is not allowed without prior approval from the Salon’s management and the consent of the concerned participants.
For sensitive, closed, or Chatham House Rule sessions, the organizers may prohibit all photography and recording, or allow only limited documentation that does not reveal participants’ identities or individual statements.
Participants must not publish photos, videos, quotes, screenshots, or summaries from the Salon without approval.
8.Facilitation and Speaking Time
Participants must respect the facilitation process, the speaking order, and the time allocated for interventions.
The facilitator has the right to organize the discussion, manage speaking turns, limit overly long interventions, redirect the discussion to the topic, or stop any intervention that violates this Code of Conduct.
9.Attendance and Space Capacity
Participation in Salon sessions may be subject to prior registration, confirmation, and the capacity of the selected space.
The Salon’s management may limit attendance, organize participation lists, or prioritize confirmed members when needed to ensure safety, quality of dialogue, and respect for the operational capacity of Talaqi Center.
10.Membership and Participation
Membership in Talaqi Political Salon does not give any participant the right to represent Talaqi Center, Advancing Civil Society - GLOCA, or the Salon itself.
Members may not use their membership to imply political authorization, institutional representation, endorsement, or official status unless this is explicitly granted in writing.
11.Use of the Members’ Communication Group
The Salon’s members’ communication group is intended for proposing topics, exchanging ideas, voting on priority discussion issues, and coordinating participation in sessions.
It may not be used for partisan propaganda, hate speech, personal attacks, misinformation, harassment, commercial promotion, fundraising, or content unrelated to the purpose of the Salon.
12.No Personal, Commercial, or Organizational Exploitation
Participants may not use the Salon to collect funds, recruit members, promote private interests, build political lists, pressure participants, or conduct activities unrelated to the Salon’s civic purpose.
Any exceptional request must be reviewed and approved in advance by the Salon’s management.
13.Participant Responsibility
Each participant is responsible for their words, behavior, and contributions inside the Salon and in any communication channels linked to it.
Participants are expected to help protect the Salon as a safe, respectful, inclusive, and constructive civic space.
14.Violations and Measures
If a participant violates this Code of Conduct, the Salon’s management may take appropriate measures depending on the nature and seriousness of the violation.
These measures may include:
- A verbal warning.
- A written warning.
- Limitation of participation.
- Removal from a specific session.
- Removal from the members’ communication group.
- Suspension of membership.
- Exclusion from future Salon activities.
Serious violations, including hate speech, threats, harassment, incitement, or breach of confidentiality, may lead to immediate removal.
15.Acceptance of the Code
Registration for membership or participation in Talaqi Political Salon means that the participant has read, understood, and agreed to comply with this Code of Conduct.
Talaqi Center reserves the right to update this Code of Conduct when needed to protect participants, improve the quality of dialogue, and preserve the civic character of the Salon.
